Preparing Tea

These preparation methods are general guidelines ONLY.

It is recommended that you adjust the strength and drawing times to suit your own taste.

Use filtered or spring water where possible.

Black Tea

  • Bring water to the boil (90-100c)
  • Use 1 level teaspoon per 250ml cup
  • Let flavoured and small leaf teas draw for about 2 minutes and full leaf teas for about 2-3 minutes

Oolong Tea/White Tea

  • Bring water to the boil (around 90-100c)
  • Use level teaspoon per 250ml cup
  • Let larger leaf teas draw for about 3 minutes and others for about 2-3 minutes

Green Tea

  • The water should be simmering not boiling (80c)!  If the water does come to the boil, allow it to settle for about 50 seconds before pouring on the tea.
Ignore this important step and the leaves will turn yellow
  • Use 1 level teaspoon per 250ml cup
  • Let draw for about 1-2 minutes only, otherwise it might taste bitter

Herbal Infusions/Fruit Infusions

  • Bring water to the boil (90-100c)
  • Use 1 level teaspoon per 250ml cup or 1.5 level tablespoons per litre
  • Herbal infusions/fruit infusions need to draw about 2 minutes
